This product may be used in the formulation of the following non-pesticide products:

  • adhesives
  • dried films
  • industrial yarns and fabrics
  • latex paint
  • paper and paperboard
  • paper coatings
  • water reduced industrial materials

Adhesives Antimicrobials:

  • VANCIDE MZ-98 is an antimicrobial used to prevent mold growth on aqueous adhesive films. It can also be used as a fungicide in Neoprene compounds.
  • VANCIDE MZ-98 is zinc dimethyldithiocarbamate, a chemical known to act as an accelerator in various rubber polymers, such as neoprene and natural rubber.
  • IMPORTANT: Please be certain evaluations have been performed in polymer systems prior to scale up to assure compatibility and fungi-resistance.

Label Directions:

Preservation of Adhesives - To preserve starch and synthetic latex adhesive formulations (dry, after water is added by end-user) against bacterial degradation add 0.185% to 0.5% VANCIDE MZ-98 by weight of total composition, during manufacture of adhesive composition. This product is cleared for use in adhesives used in food packaging (FDA§ 175.1 05).

Biocide/Fungicide for Industrial Products:

  • VANCIDE MZ-98 is registered for preservation of water-based paint films, adhesives, texture coatings, caulks, spackles, etc.

Label Directions:

Short-term Spoilage Protection - VANCIDE MZ-98 can supply short-term protection from spoilage to water-reduced industrial materials including wallboard compounds. For successful control of spoilage, the use of good quality water and clean manufacturing conditions are required. In ready-mix products, add 0.4 - 0.5% VANCIDE MZ-98 to the water-based formula during manufacture, based on total weight. In dry-powder formulas, the amount of VANCIDE MZ-98 added during final manufacture should be sufficient to attain 0.4 - 0.5% VANCIDE MZ-98 in the final mixture, once water is added at the use site.

Paint and Coatings:

  • VANCIDE MZ-98 is highly effective in imparting mold resistance properties for interior or exterior coatings; latex-based, aqueous systems; traffic and marking paints.
  • VANCIDE MZ-98 is registered for preservation of water-based paint films, adhesives, texture coatings, caulks, spackles, etc. which might be used for:
  • Indoors in bathrooms, kitchens and basement areas.
  • Outdoors for paint, caulks, sealants and applications cured by heat.
  • Other building products based on aqueous latex, i.e., adhesives.
  • Dried adhesives and coatings which are reduced with water on-site.

Label Directions:

Mold Inhibitor for Latex Paint - For exterior latex paints, use no more than 1% VANCIDE MZ-98 based on total weight (equal to about 10 lbs. per 100 gallons). For all other paints, use no more than 3% VANCIDE MZ-98 based on total weight (equal to no more than 30 lbs. per 100 gallons), added during the pigment-dispersion stage of manufacture. It is recommended that users of paints applied with an airless sprayer wear suitable respiratory protection. Do not use in formulations containing metallic drier.

Waterborne Antimicrobials:

  • VANCIDE MZ-98 is an antimicrobial used to prevent mold growth on latex films.

Other Label Directions:

Preservative for Dried Films - The dried films of water-based or water-reduced industrial materials are often subject to defacement by mold and mildew. Such materials include wall and ceiling textures, wallpaper paste, wallboard, joint compounds, spackles, wood fillers, caulks and sealants. VANCIDE MZ-98 should be added at 0.185 to 0.5% (based on potential dry-film solids weight) during the initial phase of formula preparation to assure adequate wetting and disbursement.

Mold Resistant Paper and Paperboard - To impart mold resistant properties to paper or paperboard, apply as a surface treatment on size press or calendar stack. VANCIDE MZ-98 diluted as required to retain 0.5% solids on the weight of the sheet. See TAPPI Standard T487M-54 for mold resistance evaluation method. Do not use for the manufacture of mold-resistant paper or paperboard intended for food packaging purposes.

Preservation of Industrial Yarns and Fabrics - For long-term protection of industrial yarns and fabrics from mildew, rot and bacterial decomposition, use 1.25% ± 0.25% VANCIDE MZ-98 based on the weight of the material applied in water dispersion.

Preservation of Paper Coatings - To preserve non-food contact paper coatings, add 0.1% VANCIDE MZ-98 by weight or the dry starch or protein.

IMPORTANT: It is a violation of Federal law to use this product in a manner inconsistent with its labeling.
